What causes trades or withdrawals to show unusually high gains in KoinX?
If you're seeing trades or withdrawals in KoinX that show unusually high gains, itβs likely due to an issue with how the capital gain is calculated.
How KoinX calculates capital gains:
Capital Gain = Fair Market Value (at time of disposal) β Cost Basis
- Fair Market Value (Worth): The value of the asset when it was sold or withdrawn.
- Cost Basis: The original price you paid to acquire the asset.
A high gain occurs when the cost basis is significantly lower than the worth. This could be accurate, but it might also signal a data issue.
What to Check:
- Fair Market Value (Worth)
Where do we fetch prices from?
KoinX uses market data from trusted sources like CoinMarketCap and CoinGecko.
However, the worth might be off if:
- The price of the asset was missing or unavailable.
- The asset was highly volatile, leading to inaccurate price capture.
- The market price was incorrectly assumed to be $0.
You can manually edit the market price by editing the transaction and entering the correct value.
Cost Basis
This is auto-calculated from your transaction history. If the cost basis is too low or shows as zero, it likely means:
- A missing purchase transaction.
- Incomplete data across wallets or exchanges.
- Incorrect transaction mapping.
Review any "Missing purchase history" warnings to fix this, or check if all your relevant wallets/files are properly connected and uploaded.
