# How to Generate Your Kraken Tax Report with KoinX

> Connect your Kraken Exchange account to KoinX in a few steps to generate tax reports compliant with your local jurisdiction.

## Connect Kraken to KoinX

**Kraken uses File Upload only - export the Ledgers CSV and upload it to KoinX.**

    ## Download your Kraken Ledgers export

      <Step title="Log in to Kraken">
        Go to [kraken.com](https://www.kraken.com) and sign in to your account.
      </Step>

      <Step title="Open Documents">
        Click your **profile icon** in the top right corner and select **Documents**.
      </Step>

      <Step title="Create an export">
        In the **Exports** section, click **Create Export** in the top right corner.
      </Step>

      <Step title="Select Ledgers">
        Choose **Ledgers** as the export type. Do not select Trades or Balances.

        <Warning>
          Select **Ledgers** only. The Trades export does not include staking rewards, deposits, or withdrawals. Uploading the wrong file type will result in missing transactions and inaccurate tax calculations.

      </Step>

      <Step title="Set date range and format">
        Set the **Start date** to your first Kraken activity and the **End date** to today. Choose **CSV** as the file format.
      </Step>

      <Step title="Generate and download">
        Click **Generate**. The export appears in the Exports list as **Queued**. Check back manually - Kraken does not send email notifications. When the download icon activates, click it to download a zip file.

        Unzip the downloaded file. Inside is `ledgers.csv` - this is the file you upload to KoinX. Do not open it before uploading.

          Upload the extracted `ledgers.csv` only - not the zip archive. Do not open it in Excel or Google Sheets before uploading, as this corrupts the file format.

    ## Upload to KoinX

      <Step title="Open KoinX Integrations">
        Log in to [app.koinx.com](https://app.koinx.com) -> **Integrations** -> **Add Integration**.
      </Step>

      <Step title="Select Kraken">
        Search for **Kraken** and select it.
      </Step>

      <Step title="Upload the Ledgers CSV">
        Click **Upload** and select the `ledgers.csv` file you extracted. If you exported multiple date ranges, upload all files together - KoinX deduplicates automatically.
      </Step>

      <Step title="Submit">
        Click **Submit**. KoinX processes your file and imports your full Kraken history.
      </Step>
    </Steps>

    <Check>
      **Done.** KoinX reads your transactions, classifies them, and prepares everything for gains calculation and tax report generation.

    Now that your Kraken data is in, head to [Tax Reports](https://app.koinx.com/tax-report) on KoinX - your capital gains, staking income, and full report are ready to download.

      **Never open the Kraken CSV in Excel or Google Sheets before uploading.** This corrupts the file format. Re-download a fresh export from Kraken if you already did.

## Frequently asked questions

  <Accordion title="Which Kraken file should I upload - Ledgers or Trades?">
    Always upload Ledgers. It includes trades, deposits, withdrawals, staking rewards, and fees in a single file. The Trades export only covers executed orders and will result in missing staking and transfer data.

  <Accordion title="Why does Kraken download a zip file?">
    Kraken packages all exports as zip files. Unzip the downloaded file to find `ledgers.csv` inside - upload that CSV file to KoinX, not the zip archive.

  <Accordion title="How long does the Kraken export take to generate?">
    Exports can take anywhere from a few minutes to several hours for large accounts. Kraken does not send email notifications - check the Documents page manually and download when the icon activates.

## Troubleshooting

    You may have uploaded the zip archive instead of the extracted CSV, or opened the file in Excel before uploading. Unzip a freshly downloaded file and upload only the `ledgers.csv` without opening it.

  <Accordion title="Staking rewards are missing from KoinX">
    You selected the Trades export instead of Ledgers. Go back to **Kraken** -> **Documents** -> **Create Export**, select **Ledgers**, re-export, extract the zip, and upload the new `ledgers.csv` to KoinX.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Export has been queued for a long time">
    Large account exports can take several hours. Wait and check the Documents page periodically. If the export has been stuck for more than 24 hours, create a new export request.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="KoinX shows a PDF error on upload">
    You downloaded a PDF account statement instead of a CSV Ledgers export. Go to **Kraken** -> **Documents** -> **Create Export**, select **Ledgers** as the type, and choose **CSV** as the file format.

  <Accordion title="Deposits and withdrawals are missing from KoinX">
    The Trades export does not include deposits or withdrawals. Re-export using the Ledgers format and re-upload the extracted CSV to KoinX.

  <Accordion title="KoinX is showing duplicate Kraken transactions">
    This happens when overlapping CSV files covering the same date range are uploaded. Go to **KoinX** -> **Integrations**, remove the duplicate Kraken upload, and re-upload a clean set of files with no overlapping date ranges.
