About Solana

What Is Solana?

Solana (SOL) is a high-speed Layer-1 blockchain blockchain designed for decentralized apps (dApps) and crypto projects, known for its scalability.

Who Are the Founders of Solana?

Solana was founded by Anatoly Yakovenko and Raj Gokal in 2020.

What Makes Solana Unique?

The combination of PoH and PoS is Solana’s hallmark, enabling validators to agree on block timing without constant messaging overhead. This design, along with innovations like Gulf Stream mempool and Sealevel parallel runtime, delivers unmatched on-chain performance.

How Is the Solana Network Secured?

Security is enforced by PoS validators synchronized via PoH, backed by slashing penalties and real-time network monitoring. Despite occasional outages, ongoing improvements in validator software and network telemetry strengthen resilience.

What Is Solana’s Role in the Crypto Ecosystem?

Powers DeFi, NFT platforms, and scalable dApps, offering sub-second finality and minimal transaction costs.

How Is Solana’s Technology Upgraded?

Upgrades are managed through Solana Improvement Proposals (SIPs), which validators vote on and coordinate for activation during scheduled network maintenance windows.

Who Are the Largest Corporate Holders of Solana?

Leading DeFi projects (Serum, Raydium), institutional stakers (formerly FTX/Alameda), and top validator firms hold the majority of Solana.
