Reference Guide · 4-6 min read · Covers paired incoming/outgoing labels · Affects cost basis tracking
Some transaction labels work together to represent a complete crypto activity. For example, staking involves both a Stake transaction when your assets are locked and an Unstake transaction when they’re returned. Similarly, bridging assets involves both Send to Bridge and Receive from Bridge. Using the correct labels for both sides of the transaction helps KoinX understand the complete lifecycle of your assets and apply the correct tax treatment.
If you label one side of a transaction, remember to review the related transaction as well.

Staking

Outgoing Label

Stake

Incoming Label

Unstake
Represents: Locking your crypto for staking and receiving the original assets back when the staking period ends.
Use Stake when you lock your crypto to participate in staking. When the staking period ends and your original assets are returned, label that transaction as Unstake. Why is choosing the correct labels important? If either transaction remains labelled as External Withdrawal or External Deposit, KoinX may not recognise that your assets were only temporarily locked. This can affect cost basis tracking and the tax treatment of your staking activity.

Lending

Outgoing Label

Lend

Incoming Label

Lend Settlement
Represents: Lending your crypto and receiving the same assets back when the lending period ends.
Use Lend when you lend your crypto through a lending platform or protocol. When your assets are returned, label the incoming transaction as Lend Settlement. Why is choosing the correct labels important? Using these labels allows KoinX to recognise that the returned assets are the same crypto you previously lent, rather than newly received assets.

Borrowing

Outgoing Label

Borrow Settlement

Incoming Label

Borrow / Receive Loan
Represents: Borrowing crypto and repaying the borrowed amount.
Use Borrow / Receive Loan when borrowed crypto is credited to your wallet. When you repay the loan, label the outgoing transaction as Borrow Settlement. Why is choosing the correct labels important? If either transaction is left as a regular deposit or withdrawal, KoinX may not recognise the borrowing lifecycle correctly. This can lead to borrowed funds or repayments being classified incorrectly.

Bridging

Outgoing Label

Send to Bridge

Incoming Label

Receive from Bridge
Represents: Moving your crypto from one blockchain to another while retaining ownership.
Use Send to Bridge when assets leave one blockchain, and Receive from Bridge when the same assets arrive on the destination blockchain. Why is choosing the correct labels important? If either side remains labelled as a standard deposit or withdrawal, KoinX may not recognise the transfer as a bridge transaction. This could cause the movement of your own assets to be classified incorrectly.

Liquidity Pools

Outgoing Label

Send to Pool

Incoming Label

Receive from Pool
Represents: Depositing crypto into a liquidity pool and withdrawing it later.
Use Send to Pool when depositing assets into a liquidity pool, and Receive from Pool when those assets are returned. Why is choosing the correct labels important? Using the correct labels helps KoinX understand that the assets were temporarily deposited into a liquidity pool rather than permanently disposed of.

Collateral

Outgoing Label

Collateral Lock

Incoming Label

Collateral Unlock
Represents: Locking crypto as collateral for a loan and receiving it back once the collateral is released.
Use Collateral Lock when locking crypto as collateral for a loan or leveraged position. When the collateral is released, label the incoming transaction as Collateral Unlock. Why is choosing the correct labels important? If these transactions aren’t labelled correctly, KoinX may treat the collateral as assets leaving and re-entering your portfolio instead of being temporarily locked.

Fixed Deposits & Earn Programs

Outgoing Label

Fixed Deposit Lock

Incoming Label

Fixed Deposit Unlock
Represents: Locking crypto in a fixed deposit or earn product and receiving the principal back when it matures.
Use Fixed Deposit Lock when you lock crypto in a fixed deposit or earn product. Once the deposit matures, label the returned principal as Fixed Deposit Unlock. Why is choosing the correct labels important? Using these labels helps KoinX distinguish between the return of your original investment and any interest earned, ensuring each is treated appropriately for tax purposes.

Quick reference

Best practices

  • Always review both sides of an activity, not just the incoming or outgoing transaction.
  • Use related labels consistently so KoinX can identify the complete lifecycle of your assets.
  • If one side of a transaction is labelled correctly but the other remains External Deposit or External Withdrawal, the activity may not be classified accurately.

Frequently asked questions

Both sides need to be labelled. If only one side is updated and the other remains External Deposit or External Withdrawal, KoinX won’t be able to link the two transactions as a single activity, which can affect cost basis tracking and tax treatment.
That’s expected if the assets are still locked or staked. Label the transaction you do see - for example, Stake - and label the corresponding Unstake once those assets are returned to your wallet.
Generally, yes it prevents an incorrect outcome - correctly labelled bridge and pool transactions are typically treated as non-taxable movements of your own assets rather than disposals, since ownership doesn’t change. Leaving them as generic deposits/withdrawals risks KoinX treating them as taxable events.
Regenerate your tax report after updating labels, and make sure the paired transaction is labelled correctly too. A report generated before both sides are labelled won’t reflect the corrected tax treatment.
